I think English is the most spoken language across the World because it is an easy language to learn and because during the discoveries of the British English was taken to many places.
Furthermore, nowadays English is very important to get a job, in a globalized world because nearly every country uses English as a second of first language.
Since the English language is the most spoken one, learning it makes the access to other cultures easy, so I believe that in a few years the world's cultures will be homogenized due to the easy spread of English. We can see that trough Mcdonald's stores, kebab stores etc.
In a nutshell, my overall opinion is that English is very important, because I prefer sharing cultures than being apart from the rest of the world.
