Do women still have to fight for their rights?

I think that not all women have to fight for their rights. Only a few need to fight for them, like in those countries less evolved, like African and Asian countries etc. Women in those kind of countries don’t have some of the basic rights… A very good example is in some tribs, women cant do what men do, their job is just to cook, have children, take care of them etc. Although tradition is important, I think that those women could fight for their rights.

What does freedom mean to you?

I see freedom, like a right that every one should have, but it’s not that simple, some people don’t have that luxury. Some people aren’t free at all, and others have too much freedom. That’s the problem.
People confuse freedom, with ‘’we can do whatever we want’’, that’s not it, that’s why there is people who are in jail, they think they can do whatever they want, and so they break the law and end up locked up.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights

Article 4.
·         No one shall be held in slavery or servitude; slavery and the slave trade shall be prohibited in all their forms.

Article 5.
·         No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment

-          I chose this 2 articles, because they have many things in common, no one shall be held in slavery and no one shall be submitted to torture are both 2 common things, because one thing implies the other. A person becomes a slave after being submitted to some kind of torture, because no one wants to be slave of another person. I completely agree with these 2 articles, these kinds of treatments are both inhuman and cruel to apply to a human being of for that matter to any living form.

Paul Hill diary

12 March 1974

Today is my first day in jail, I still can't believe that I'm in here for a crim I did not commit and I was forced to confess due to intimidation and physical agression.
When I first arrived I was washed and dressed with the yellow striped uniform, wich is given to the worst criminals. My first contact with British criminals was really intense, because they all hate Irish people, specially those from IRA, even though I'm not one of them.
After eating that shity food and wasting time with other criminals, i went to bed, where I can't stop wondering about how would I end up if I had never met gerry in that ferry.

My first reflection

I think English is the most spoken language across the World because it is an easy language to learn and because during the discoveries of the British English was taken to many places.
Furthermore, nowadays English is very important to get a job, in a globalized world because nearly every country uses English as a second of first language.
Since the English language is the most spoken one, learning it makes the access to other cultures easy, so I believe that in a few years the world's cultures will be homogenized due to the easy spread of English. We can see that trough Mcdonald's  stores, kebab stores etc.
In a nutshell, my overall opinion is that English is very important, because I prefer sharing cultures than being apart from the rest of the world.

A diary of Gerry Conlon

Gerry Conlon

30th January 1974. My first day in NWL Jail, when I arrived the guards said that I was going to spend all my remaining days in that jail and I had to accept it. Next, they washed me, and put all over me some kind of desinfectant and I went back to my cell.I was very confused and at the same time very frustrated with this situation, because I am here because of something I did not do, and because I am Irish.. I dont think I can handle 30 years in here but, after a couple of hours I looked outside my cell , and I saw my father all white covered by that desinfectant and he saw me too, and I started to scream and kicking my door with anger.

After one hour he appeared in my cell, I was happy for him to be here with me and to have his support, but at the same time frustrated because I did not know why he was here, he never lets me do something by myself, I was angry about him and we had a fight. At lunch time we went to the canteen to have our lunch and my father wanted to sit with the other prisioners and said that we were innocent, and of course no one believed and started to throw us food, and we went back to our cells, we ate and went to bed to wait for the next day.
